Henri Rousseau - Surprised! (1891)

Relevance to my work:

Rousseau paints with a static and naïve style. The slanting of the plants within the painting gives the impression of the wind blowing through the trees. Similar to the Dutch Still Life’s of vases of flowers, Rousseau bases his paintings on the tropical plants in Paris’s botanical gardens, creating an imaginary scene.

The use of botany within his works is similar to my own, whilst the use of the bending and moving plants is also used within my work. However, instead of this implying wind the bending plants imply death.
