Oliver Clegg

Relevance to my work:

Clegg uses acid etching and aquatint printed on fragile old pages of books. This use of a traditional medium is similar to my work and those of the Dutch masters referenced within the Vanitas exhibition. My work , As for man, his days are like grass; he flourishes like a flower of the field, is an etching with aquatint to give a depth to the pointilist image, similar to that used by Clegg. The fragility of the content of the work is also evident in both Clegg and my own works. We have both also used a series to represent this fragility, Clegg by showing the fallen tower of cards, and my own work showing the wilting of the flowers.

"Oliver Clegg is a multifaceted artist capable of producing brilliantly conceived and meticulously executed works in a broad range of expressive disciplines. He often incorporates and reworks found objects with a history, like heavily inscribed and paint-spattered ex-art school drawing boards or pages from old diaries and books. His works often have a dark brooding tension and evoke ambiguous narratives."
