Theo van Rysselberghe - Coastal Scene (1892)
Relevance to my work:
Similarly to Seurat, Rysselberghe's use of the pointillist technique creates a detailed object that shows off the artists understanding of tone, displaying the artists skill. This is a part of the vanitas theme used by the Dutch masters and then in the future by those who used pointillism, that I have continued to use in my work to make this fragile object desirable.
“This Belgian artist adopted this pointillist painting technique of Georges Seurat in the late 1880s. In the following year he painted coastal and boating scenes characterized by a highly animated application of paint. The site here may be the French Riviera which the artist began to visit in the summer of 1892.”
